In October 1985 the first orchestral concert took place in the Community Centre. Conductor John Timewell had assembled a full symphony orchestra to rehearse for a day and perform a classical concert in the evening. Twenty five years later the annual concert has become a tradition, performing to full houses on the first Sunday of each October. Last year the audience were asked to pick their favourite pieces from those twenty five years. Their selections would create the silver anniversary programme. It will include Borodin's "Polovtsian Dances" and Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man". Just two of the great favourites. |

Imagine a country estate where the elderly Mr Barks lives alone apart from a couple of faithful retainers. He invites his two daughters, Stephanie and Mellissa, to stay with him for the weekend but they express concern when he doesn't appear. They suspect that his invitation was to say his final good-byes. Suddenly the prospect of wealth from the sale of the estate grips each of them. Not wishing to share the legacy each plots the other's demise.

Officers and Councillors came to Bourne End on Tuesday 10 August and faced outspoken opposition to Bucks County Council's “Having a Good Day” consultation. If its proposed changes to day care facilities go ahead it could mean the end of our purpose-built centre alongside the library. Representatives from local organisations as well as those who use the Day Centre went along, at short notice, to put their views. |

Since the news broke that Bourne End's Day Centre for the elderly could close if changes in day care provision get the go ahead, local people have been making their views known on the proposal. Gwen Thomas took immediate action when she heard. Her petition to retain the Bourne End Day Centre gained signatures day-by-day. Gwen is one among many local people who recalls the years of dogged determination, discussions and then fund raising which eventually resulted in the purpose built Day Centre at the end of Wakeman Road. |

A fifth application has been submitted by Tesco for an Express store at the Old Police House. The previous application was withdrawn and this new plan appears to be based on the third application submitted in 2008 which was refused by Wycombe District Council's planning department. The reasons for refusal in 2008 highlighted the fact that plans had already been approved for a supermarket development on the Parade Court site and there was insufficient expenditure capacity for a further convenience store. |

It has taken time but now plans for improving play equipment in Blind Lane Recreation Ground can move forward. A few months ago the large Basket Swing was moved out and taken down to be part of the refurbishment at Watery Lane's open space. The Aerial Zip Slide came out two weeks ago and is being stored until a new location can be found. People using the Recreation Ground have been looking at the notices showing new play equipment for both toddler and junior use. |
