Burnend (first recorded 1236) "End of the Stream" is where the Wye flows into the Thames. Nestling in the Chilterns alongside the river, the village has been the home of papermakers, lacemakers and brickmakers. Today Bourne End is a thriving village close to London and even closer to the open countryside of the Chiltern Hills in central southern England.
This site is provided by Bourne End Community Association as a service to people who work and live in Bourne End. The Community Association is also responsible for provision and management of the Bourne End Community Centre.

At a time when The Parade in Bourne End has seen closures, the most recent being Wine Rack, this new supermarket illustrates the confidence that a major retailer has in the village. Close to half-a-million pounds was spent on the work. The supermarket is set for the next decade and plans to offer customers what they want at competitive prices.
Smart new face in Wakeman Road
Many familiar faces are part of the team having moved from the previous Somerfield store into the world of the Co-operative food. It was good to see them back and in their smart new colours. They greeted old friends who came into the new store and then stayed to shop. 'It's completely different' one customer said 'and to begin with it was a case of learning my way round'.
Brenda Pheby who lives in Chalklands gets to know the new store. The man over her shoulder is part of a display - but very life-like
There was an official opening with pupils from Westfield School. Kevin, the new store manager, had to cut the ribbon with extra large scissors. Then the children leaped for joy. After that it was back to work.

To support Bourne End the Co-operative food sponsored the new childrens' light designed by Olivia Marlow from the Meadows School in Wooburn Green. The store also provided the tomato ketchup and brown sauce for the hot dog stall on Fun Night. During Fun Night staff handed out vouchers and were very much part of this special evening in the village.
