Fete and Football

Bourne End Fete 2010 - thumbnailSelecting Saturday 12 June as the date for the 2010 Village Fete was done long ago. Well before the World Cup schedule was published. So there's a bit of magic in the fact that the Village Fete and England's first game are on the same day. To get everyone in the right frame of mind the Village Fete will bring community groups and individuals together during the morning with stalls around the Centre, refreshments, jazz and sizzling hot dogs.

Make sure you come along from 10am and browse around all the good things on offer and try your hand at Penny and Brian's Monster Tombola with exceptional prizes. Among the stalls will be plants courtesy of the Horticultural Society - grown locally and almost guaranteed to flourish in your garden. Then there's lots of home made produce and plenty of bric-a-brac. Games for the children will keep them happy while parents meet friends, chat and relax. Pop into the Target Room for a cuppa and a snack provided by Forum Players and hear about their plans for the year ahead. Take time to listen to the music provided by a group of jazz musicians who like playing in Bourne End.

And before you wander home visit the famous hot dog stall and enjoy the tasty sausages (Colliass of course) in a fresh bun (Lees Bakery). Onions from the Fruit Market. A great combination and all skilfully cooked by Jim, who doubles as chairman of Bourne End Residents Association.

Should there be a repeat of last year's rain everything will move into the main hall to ensure good conditions for this year's Village Fete.

In the bar at 7.30pm all eyes will be on the big screen for England's first game in the 2010 World Cup. The match is against the United States of America. The glowing embers in the barbecue will be stirred into life to provide food at half time. Can you take the tension? In the bar you'll be among fellow supporters and all willing England to do well.
