On Bank Holiday Tuesday 5 June the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Community Association continue and this time it's away from the Community Centre. As a tribute to the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations for Her Majesty the Queen there will be a Jubilee Picnic in the Recreation Ground off Furlong Road.
This joint celebratory event takes the Community Association out into the village with a special occasion at the end of the Jubilee weekend. Families and friends are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy a social afternoon in a lovely location with activities for the children and entirely free for everyone. Children are invited to come in fancy dress and be judged by a special guest. Then they can decorate a crown with jewels and have that judged. Prizes will be awarded for the perfect crown. No doubt there will be a photographer to record the winner wearing their creation. ![]() Face painting in a range of special designs or go for a patriotic Union Jack or an England flag design. In the background music will be provided by Bass-ically Saxes to suit the mood and be particularly patriotic for the occasion. It's intended to be a lazy, hazy, Bank Holiday Tuesday to remember. Jewellery making will see the children bedecked with bracelets and necklaces in glittering beads while there's special friendship bracelets to be exchanged with family and friends. Everything, in fact, to make gifts that will be a reminder of the day and the occasion. A royal jubilee and a golden anniversary for the Community Association. Lots of tissue paper will make it possible to create flower garlands and flowers for all sorts of uses. Then there's the “loyalty tree” where children can write their personal message and tie it around a tree branch on the day. Later these will be removed and the messages sent to HM the Queen with a photo of the tree. Along with these activities will be traditional games like Splat the Rat, Roll-a-ball, Skittles, Hoopla and more. There will be displays and information from the Community Association, Twinning Association, Bourne End Youth Club and Forum Players with, hopefully, more on the day. ![]() Could you help run an activity or game?
Maybe marshalling at the entrance or at the car park for a while? If so please contact us for more information. Parking for the Jubilee Picnic will be in the industrial estate at the end of Furlong Road with families being dropped off at the end of Recreation Road so that local residents are not inconvenienced. And if it should be wet on the day then the Jubilee Picnic will be at the Community Centre, in the dry but with all the activities originally planned for the outdoors. Whatever the weather the Jubilee Picnic will be a great celebration for the Jubilee and the 50th anniversary celebrations. Noon til 4:30pm |
