BEBCA logoA wide cross section of interested supporters attended the Annual General Meeting of Bourne End (Bucks) Community Association on Friday 15 June. Outside the sun shone and provided a sparkling start to the meeting which was opened by President Penny Walsh. Penny thanked everyone for their enthusiasm and support over the past year.

As the Honorary Secretary, Myra Hurley, was on holiday her report was read by the chairman Jeremy Ilic. In 2011 solar panels were installed on the Centre roof at a cost of just over £32,000 and during the year over ten megawatts of electricity had been generated with over £4,000 of subsidy payments. In addition electricity costs at the Centre had been reduced by a further £800 by using some the electricity generated.

Other projects completed during 2011 included the purchase of a storage container now sited at the side of the Centre as well as investment in an EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) system which had gone ‘live’ in the bar. This system will be extended to manage Centre bookings, accounting and invoicing in 2012.

Activities during 2011 continued with local groups making full use of the Centre’s facilities. An Open Evening organised by FoOV (Future of Our Village) attracted new people into the centre, many of them later becoming members. During 2011 a Petanque Club laid out three courts at the back of the Centre and became a new Section of the Community Association.<
