| Miss Bourne End 1973 |

This video is of the Miss Bourne End competition in 1973 held at Deyncourt (now Wye Valley) School.
Admittedly it does look "of its time" but for those around in Bourne End in the 1970s we see many of the stalwarts of village life. George Warner (ex manager of the Bourne End cinema) and Rex Lakeman from the Cine Club, Sue and Max Pollock, Ken Morgan, Cyril Witts and guest star Roy Castle. ![]() Roy Castle was a judge for the 1973 Miss Bourne End competition
The show was compared by David Fielder who also hosted the On Target Quiz and the Carnival Day events. Miss Bourne End was run as part of the Community Association's Carnival Week held each year in June. ![]() A stylish setting for the Miss Bourne End program
At that time many of the village events were captured for posterity by the Bourne End Cine Club (now the Bourne End Video Camera Club) and this one was shown as part of the Carnival Film Night at the Community Centre later in 1973. Unfortunately most of the films made around this time have not survived so it was particularly gratifying to see this one on YouTube. Enjoy 8 mins of nostalgia - how many other people to you recognise? |
